Diamonds 2 Stoke Town 2
After a long spell without a game meant Diamonds were a little rusty they put in a good performance, Jose Balla , Lucy Whieldon and Skye Hart were outstanding throughout and it was Balla that levelled the score at 1 - 1 after a delightfull touch just inside the box lost her marker and set herself up to drive the ball past the keeper. A tight game saw Mayleigh Harper catch the keeper off her line with a long range effort to put the City girls in front befor Town equalised from the spot late on.
Diamonds 3 Stoke Town 3
A good performance from Diamonds, the passing, movement and communication were all good the only dissapointments was that they didnt convert there domination of possesion into goals and that Stoke scored as many goals from far fewer chances. the City girls spent the entire opening 10 mins in Towns half and then fell behind to the first time the ball had been in their half. A long high ball into the box bounced over keeper Elsie Baxter and Jose Balla just failed to clear off the line. Diamonds quickly replied when Ballas cross into the box was deflected in by a Stoke defender, with their tails now up again Lucy Whieldon and Taylor Hitchcock dominant in midfield they were soon in front when Paige Cartwright fired home from close range, the game should have been wrapped up at that point but Diamonds lacked the killer instinct in front goal.
The second half opened with Stoke equalising from only their second shot of the game after a player was allowed to run the length of the field to get a shot away that Baxter could only parry out. With the game now a much more even afair Diamonds again went in front when Mayleigh Harper pressured the keeper into a mistake that left her a simple tap in, but with only 8 mins left a tireing Diamonds conceeded the equaliser. Overall a good game to watch with Diamonds playing their best football of the season so far.
Red Street 3 Diamonds 3
Diamonds traveled to to the North end of the County for their first fixture in the County League and found themselves a goal down within 10 secs after some woefull defending from th kick off. Recovering their composure the City girls went on to play some good football (all be it by using phsycic powers instead of verbal communication), Caitlin Harper drilled in the equaliser from a tight angle. Although Diamonds went on to dominate the half it showed they hadnt played for four months. Denied a blatent penalty when Paige Cartwright was sent sprawling in the box as she tried to get on the end of a Josie Balla cross, the ref with a clear view from 20 yards ignored the incident leaving spectators to draw their own conclusions.
Early in the second half the home side restored their led from an inswinging corner which should have been dealt with, leaving Paige Cartwright to level the score with a close range effort after a good cross from Skye Hart.
The vistors should have gone in front as a ball ran across the front of gaol but Harper lacked the composure to steer the ball home, but then once again with onlt 10 mins left Red Street took the lead after another hopefull ball upfield wasent dealt with leaving the striker to race clear and shoot through keeper Elsie Baxters legs.
Knowing they had conceeded three soft goals Diamonds raised their game once more and got the least they desereved from the game with another equliser, Mayleigh Harper drilled in a corner to the near post where Cartwright reacted quickly to touch the ball home.
With the cobwebbs now shaken out Diamonds will be looking for a much better performance all over the pitch next saturday, its time to strap a pair on, step forward and take control girls!
